CRANE, George W. - Sr. - 1960

HILLSBORO - George W. Crane Sr., 82, died at his home here Tuesday after an illness of two years. He had been seriously ill since last Sunday.  Born Feb. 22, 1878, in Covington, he was the son of George W. and Carolyn Schneider Crane. He was married June 27, 1900, to Jennie Bever.  They were married here. Mr. and Mrs. Crane observed their 60th wedding anniversary last summer. Mr. Crane was engaged in the grocery business here most of his life. He also was employed by Hopkins Syndicate Inc.  before his health began failing. He was a member of the First Methodist Temple of Chicago. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. George W. Crane Jr. columnist and professor at Northwestern University, and Dr. John E. Crane of Manhattan, Kan.; two daughters, Mrs. Willard Palmer of Gary and Mrs. Charles Wovlerton of Tacoma, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Lottie Moore of Vincennes, Mrs. Margaret Tremaine of Covington and Mrs. Lelia Hershberger of Ft. Wayne; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. (EST) Friday at the Hillsboro Methodist Church with Rev. Ronald Carlson, pastor of the church, officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery here. Friends may pay their respects at Crumley Funeral Home here after 6 p.m. Wednesday.   --- jlr
